1987 305 carb to 1986 TPI car
1987 305 carb to 1986 TPI car
I currently own a 1986 T/A with a blown 305 TPI perimeter bolt engine and I have a 1987 4 barrel CARB center-bolt 305 engine to replace it. My plan is to install the 1987 center-bolt engine with the original 1986 TPI system. That way I'm hoping that I don't have to deal with any wiring changes. Are there any major factors that I have to take into consideration ??? I understand that the original 1986 TPI manifold can be modified a bit to make it fit on the 1987 engine. Or should I just get an '87-89 TPI intake manifold and throw it right in there with no further modifications ?? Any opinions will be greatly appreciated. I need to do this soon. Thanks.

You are correct, this has been discussed here a bazillion times, but to answer your question the center bolt holes on the 87-up heads are drilled at a different angle than the 86 heads.
The intake should line up properly but the 4 center bolt holes will need to be modified, and you may need to shim the bolts, but I'm not sure about that.

So besides the modification of the intake manifold , the rest should be the same. Don't need to adjust anything different as far as using 081 heads with the '86 TPI system ???? Yhanks for your answer though, appreciate it.
