My GTA got a new lnogblock put on this week, the old one was trashed thanks to the PO. After hooking up the TPI and getting it running it idles horrible and doesn't even out until about 2500 RPMs. The guy I had install it doesn't know a whole lot about TPI (I know, I'm dumb) and doesn't really have a clue on what to do to get everything right and smooth. I sent him the link about TPS adjustment, hoping this was the cause, and it helped, but didn't fix the situation. He is telling me I need to find someone with the computer to hook up to the car that will adjust the TPI. Is this making sense to anyone?? This guy is not a crook and he knows his way around most SBCs and Fuel Injection setups, just not TPI. He is confident everything is hooked up correctly. Maybe he's just talking about hooking up a reader and finding where the problem is and replacing the part.

Just to add, when the longblocks were switched out I had him remove all the smog crap. Do I need to get a new chip burned now or does this change anything to where it would need reprogrammed?

I believe so. He said when he got the car it was all bypassed anyway so when he switched everything over he asked me if I wanted the emissions stuff on there and I told him no so he got rid of it. I'm not sure what all that entailed but he told me he got rid of it.

One of his car buddies told him the TPI stuff needed to be hooked up to some computer to get it right. Says it would take only a couple minutes to do, he just didn't have the stuff to do it.

Would I have to re program the PROM after removing the smog pump?

Get pics of the engine bay maybe there is something hooked up wrong. I would redo the prom but thats just because I have the means. I am not sure if you have to or not.

I would take some pics but I'm stationed down in Ft. Campbell and the car is in St. Louis. I wish it ran well enough to just get it down here so I can mess with it but I don't want to screw it up with a 4 hour drive.

I just asked him that and he told me the check engine light isn't coming on so he didn't bother. He says he'll hook it up in the morning to see but would it throw a code without the light on?
