First 350 TPI build

I recently aquired a TPI set for my 91 RS. I am going to bulid a 350 to put the TPI on. What I am trying to figure out before I start purchasing parts is what I need to do to build the motor to fully maximaize the TPI and if so what kind of HP could I expect? Thanks.

Re: First 350 TPI build

I'll be in your position at some point, but from what I've gathered, the stock TPI tends to have a fairly restrictive top-end, while making great torque, so if you're after more top end in your build, you'll want to consider modding the TPI system itself too (i.e, aftermarket runners, aftermarket baseplate, ported plenum, etc.) for better flow.

For a good build, you'll want a modded TPI/heads/cam set-up with upgraded exhaust too. The stock 350 TPI engines made around 225-245 HP and 330-345 Ft/lb's TQ, IRC. You can get much more power with the right build, but it pretty much comes down to how much you wanna spend, and what your power goals are!

In general though, I'd start with some mods to free up the flow of the TPI unit, and a good exhaust/headers set-up before getting into heads + cam mods, depending exactly on what car the 350 you end up getting came out of (i.e, what was in the motor stock to begin with). An awesome cam and set of heads won't go as far with restrictive intake and exhaust set-ups.

Oh, and I almost forgot. Don't forget a good tune too!
