Cylinder Heads and Cam

Ok I have a 87 camaro that had an engine swap that I thought was a 5.7 TPI but pulled off valve covers and casting on heads was 193 which is for a TBI and know that these are not good for performance. The car runs really good has 1.6 crane cams which I don't know if they help.
Getting to the point here I am looking at upgrading and will be on a budget. As I can not see paying over $1,600 for heads and you can replace the engine with a crate performace motor for all little more.
Do you think it is worth it to replace with stock 083 maybe ported with stock cam? Also don't want to have to re-program with an upgraded cam.
Any input or suggestion would be much appreciated!
Thank you

Re: Cylinder Heads and Cam

Wouldnt bother doing 083 heads in place of 193's unless the 083's are fairly well ported out, then you can combine those heads with a ported TPI intake and mild cam and make a good bit more power...but you'd need to retune for that to make it worth the effort.
