Re: Smog system removal

Maybe you can help me. I have a low rpm surge only at low r's and idle. Iac valve is new but either wide open or slammed shut, o2 sensor also new but reading that the car never comes up to temp and floods the motor. Any ideas im baffled?

Re: Smog system removal

Many things can cause a surge. Need more info to narrow it down. Double check all your base adjustments (timing, minimum idle air rate, TPS) are set properly to spec, your codes if you have any, your fuel pressure is ok, and your prom is correct then report back.

Re: Smog system removal

It's VERY simple to delete the smog system from your car. Just know that if you live in a place that has smog checks you could get dinged for it. Here's what you'll need......

Eight 1/4 inch pipe plugs from either true value or home depot. Expect to spend about $13 for them all

a 967K6 belt from Autozone or the outlet of your choice. Basically ask for a 96.7 inch long six rib serpentine belt. prices vary from $20-$35 dollars depending on the belt you get. There is a different belt routing but it's very simple. I'll draw you up a pic when I get home tonight from work.

And for the most part thats it for the SMOG pump stuff.

I have a L98 and removed everything but the pump but it needs to go... I would like to see this picture of the belt reroute.

Thanks so much! On my list of "to do" today! Everything else is gone but the pump.

Re: Smog system removal

Update: smog pump out. Took about 10 minutes once I realized you need to remove the pulley to remove the pump.

Only thing left of the system are the two connectors that plugged into the black box. I just hid them. They run into the split loom so I'm not taking them out.
