Why no data flow from ALDL ???

Problem: I connect scanner, turn ignition on, scanner says no signal - not connected? What could cause this? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

The engine will start but doesn't run very well. A new map is needed. I have all the Moates components to data log, emulate, and burn a new chip if I could get data to flow through the ALDL connector.

The vehicle project: 1990 Jeep YJ with 5.7L Chevy V8, TPI from a 87 IROC Z 5.7L, converted to a MAP system, including all sensors. Computer service # 16196395 BJLH. Computer did not come from TPI doner car. It came from the following applications: BJLH 1994 07/19/93 16196395 C1 C2 K1 K2.

Re: Why no data flow from ALDL ???

I thought this site had some real auto computer wiz guys; no one has any advice on how to solve this no data problem? Any help would be fantastic. I'm ready to pull all this TPI computer crap off the engine and throw a Holley 750 DP on it.

You would probably have more luck on the DIY forum.
The ECM might be bad causing no data output.

Re: Why no data flow from ALDL ???

Some ECM's require a 10K ohm resister between the A and B terminals to get data flowing. Some of the ALDL cables have this built in as a switch. Also, be sure your data line on the ALDL terminal is correct. Depending on where the ALDL came from, the data line may be on pin D or E. TPI should be on Pin E.
