Fuel Pump Question

My fuel pump is dead in my 89 IROC-Z TPI 350. The small amount of gas in the tank smells like varnish. I'm sure it gummed up the fuel pump. I know for a fact after troubleshooting that the fuel pump is not working.

I have a new fuel pump. It is an aftermarket no name. I can't remember if it came with a new plug to wire into the factory setup since I've had it for over a year and have move it a couple of times.

What does the factory fuel pump socket look like. I should have taken a picture but the one on the new pump is about 3/4 inch long and about 1/2 wide with 2 prongs in it. Does this sound right?

Also, what can I use to clean out the tank before I put it all back together? Will fresh gas breakdown what's in it? I mean whatever I do, I will want to make sure the tank is empty and completely clean when reinstalling it. Then add about 2 or 3 gallons of fresh gas and see if it will start.

Thanks

Re: Fuel Pump Question

Yes, very much.

It looks about the same size as the one I have.

Thanks
