Lost in the sauce....
Lost in the sauce....
About three months ago i bought an 89 Formula 350 which had a couple of problems with cold starts. It ran beautifully other than the fact that it would cut off every damn redlight and stopsign
. I have since replaced all the spark plugs/wires cap and rotor fuel filter and pcv valve. The issue stopped
. Now all of the sudden a good 2 months later She randomly died and won't come back on.
??
The damn thing seems not to be getting fuel since i checked the plugs for spark.
One oddity i have noticed since i got it .... The CEL light never has been an issue. Matter of fact now that i think about it i don't even think i know where it is cause i don't think i've ever seen it light up... Going to check fuses for everything some time this week but any suggestions on what to take a look at?
Also forgot to add She died after being driven for a good while and it was abrupt it wasn't like she was dying down and just went kaput she was running like a beast then i got to a red light. she started getting real low rpms i smacked throttle she came back. rinse and repeat about 2 more times within a matter of seconds. she faked like she was idleing right and then she died
and i had to pay 75 bucks to tow her 3 blocks at 3am

Get a fuel pressure gauge and hook it up to the rails. See what kind of pressure you get. If the pressure is low or fluctuating, you most likely have a malfunctioning fuel pump.

Try spraying some starter fluid in the intake. If it fires and dies, then its your fuel pump. If you don't get any fire at all, check the ignition control module. Its located in the distributor under the rotor, it has the two plugs going to it.
Your description of how it died sounds very similar to how mine acted a few years ago. Came to a stop, car bogged, took off, then nothing. It turned out to be the ignition control module. Thats why I say to check that also.
If you dont have any starter fluid, you can try turning the key on and listening for the fuel pump turning on. It will sound like a little buzzing or humming sound coming from the rear of the car.
Good luck.
