I have a stock 89 350 TPI, not even sure where the canister is. Tell me where and I'll take some pics of the routing for you.

I would've posted sooner, but I was off helping "other" people.

In anycase, a simple google search turned this up.

Re: 1989 TPI Charcoal Canister Lines HELP

I would just like to know where the thing mounts/is supposed to be mounted. My charcoal canister is currently mounted under the hood with wire ties (seriously) to the cruise control bracket. I know GM (really most auto makers) half-*** things, but I'm fairly sure they wouldn't have done that. The guy I bought the car off of said it was in that spot when he got it, & wasn't too sure where it was supposed to be mounted. Hitting some bumps on these "wonderful" Hawaii roads caused it to slip down close to the headers melting the wire ties, causing the canister to rest up against the header melting a nice silver dollar size hole in the side of the canister. I'll post a pic later. It's kind of like a 3-legged dog...sad but funny at the same time. Any help on the original mounting location would be much appreciated. I've done searches for it, but came up with nothing except that it's supposed to be in the rear somewhere, but while under the car I noticed some holes that are the right spacing apart for the two brackets clipped to the bottom of the canister. The area I am referring to is behind the front bumper on the passenger side.

@ Abubaca -- Thanks for the routing diagram. Much appreciated for when I get a new canister & mount it in the proper location.

Re: 1989 TPI Charcoal Canister Lines HELP

I don't know if my old thread would help, but here it is...
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/hist...ister-pic.html

I'm not sure if the canister from 89 is the same as one from 87. I finally got mine figured out, I'd take some pics for you but my car is at the transmission shop at the moment.

Re: 1989 TPI Charcoal Canister Lines HELP

This is a pic someone here sent me, but it sounds like the one you have. I think it's from an '88 or '89.

I would assume the bottom hose goes to the fuel tank, and the top smaller one goes to the throttle body.

Re: 1989 TPI Charcoal Canister Lines HELP

@formula_novice, very interesting location for your charcoal canister. My air intake box takes up that whole area. If I put in a CAI, or ram air intake I could mount mine there, but I think I'll look for another location for the time being. Thanks for the great pic, though.
