Fuel injector question
I bought a set of Fuel injectors off Ebay that didn't have the box... so they were cheap.. the bag was not opened and it did appear to be the origianal.
My question is this... where there was a lock on my old injectors that you had to turn to remove them; these have a blue plastic ring where the lock is on mine.
Is it safe to install them this way or should I try to find some locks?

Re: Fuel injector question
well, I did a web search and I see that the blue ring has nothing to do with the locks... the spot for the lock is there also...

Re: Fuel injector question
You need to find a way to limit the downward travel of the injector. The locks are to keep the injectors in the rail and properly position the injector nozzles. I am using 4.6 19lb FORD Series 3 injectors without locks. I have O rings at the bottom of the injectors, between the manifold and the injector. This positions the injector nozzles and also keeps the injectors from "blowing out" of the rail from fuel pressure. Fuel pressure and manifold vacuum are pushing and pulling (respectively) the injectors down against the O-rings and against the manifold. This additional o-ring that I used is keeping the injector from moving "too far" down and out of the rail at the top.

After looking at the pic of the injector, you will not be able to add another oring to the bottom....there is nowhere to put it. You are going to have to get yourself a set of clips because i am sure that they are not going to be long enough to seat properly in the rail.

Re: Fuel injector question
The O-rings that you add are placed on the lower shank of the all the way up against the body, between the body of the injector and the top of the boss of the injector port in the manifold. They do not fit into grooves in the injectors. These are in addition to the factory o-rings that seal the injector to the intake port boss.
I am trying to post a close-up and normal picture of my intake and injectors and show you what I have done. The camera does not have a real good "macro mode" but you can see the o ring between the injector and the intake if you look close.
Pictures below.
Mine works perfect and DOES NOT use clips! I trial fit the whole thing up on the bare intake and made sure that the injectors were positioned properly AND pressure tested to 120 PSI. So I know this works and is safe, my El Camino has run 3000 miles without a problem.

http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fb...6134192&type=1 This is a really crappy "close up" view, taken today. You can see the o-rings that I am using to keep the injectors spaced properly in the intake ports AND keeping them from "blowing out" of the fuel rail under pressure.
