went over to help a friend figure out what is going on with his 91 gta. the car has a l98 swaped in from a 87 mild lunati cam tes headers holley throttle body afpr msd ignition rebuilt 700r4 2800stall hypertech chip. he ran at a autocross event about a month ago and at the end of one of his runs the car stalled on him and they found the coil came unpluged but once hooked back up it will run but badly down on power. the car needs a tune there is no way around it but it runs rich surges bad at low speeds hard to start at times. we swaped on my stock coil from my 92 and no change. i searched for vac leaks but got nothing but you can hear like a gurgling noise from the back of the intake with throttle blips. the idle wonders badly on startup and he has to hold his foot on the gas to keep it running. he is a member here he may chime in. he is suppose to find out the cam specs to help matters a little. IMO i believe its a vac leak somewhere that we are not finding but not 100% sure where its at.

If it were me I would check the timming and get a stock chip from a sdl98 and ditch the hyprcrap.
Whats the fuel PSI ? inj ohms? Is the knock sensor correct 4 the ecm year? Timming chain slip??

Ment to mention we checked the timing the base is set right now at 10deg btdc. The rest of those I don't know how to check lol. Someone else did all the engine mods to the car before he got it. From what I understand is that ever since the autox event its been very low on power. I did a ride along and first gear punch wouldn't pull on my wifes 2011 non si civic. Not throwing any codes.

cool ill let him know what to check since i dont know when ill be able to get back out to where he is. from what i understand the motor has been rebuilt at some point has no smoke from exhaust but strong fuel smell and it has aftermarket valve covers with a k&n breather that is either puking a little oil or a little blow by. mainly only saw a little puff from the breather on startup BUT it does have some exhaust leaks at the headers so it could be from that also.
