ok i have a 86 2.8 v6 tpi right now everytime i start it idle like i would say at about 2500 to 3000 (rpm gauge dnt work) but its crazy high...ive replaced the tps, iac, fuel filter, and cleaned the throttle body and i havent been able to find someone to hook it up to check the codes...oh yeah i also checked all my vac lines couldnt find no leak is what else do yall think i need to do im ready to drive my baby lol thx in advance....

 

did you set the throttle position sensor correctly, and what about the timing. also you can check the codes for the engine light yourself place a paper clip or a wire between the a and b slots on the aldl conector under the dash and count the number of times the engine light flashes. ground the plug but dont run the car with the aldl grounded just turn the key to the on position.

 

Sounds like a vacuum leak, I used to have a 'bird with a 2.8L and the upper plenum "cover" was always leaking (I had to continuously tighten the bolts on top of the plenum). Spray carb cleaner in and around the intake, if the rpms increase (even more) then you found your leak.
