need help code 44

I had a code 44 pop up the other night, I didn't see any obvious vacuum leaks, fuel pump and filter are new, the car runs ok in open loop and barely has enough power to move in closed loop. To my knowledge the o2 sensor hasn't been replaced in some time, so I bought one but the old one is seized in the manifold. I have a 2 part question now. Can I unplug the o2 sensor to force open loop? That'll get me back and forth to work for a few days (3 miles round trip) and secondly, what should I do about the seized sensor? I've been told I can't just put a new one in the y pipe, because of the heat, what if I used a heated sensor? I just want to drive the car for a little while before I tear into it for a motor swap so I don't really want to put headers or spend a ton of money on stuff for this motor.

If the ECM doesn't see the correct V signal from O2 it will never go CL
