HELP! Failed Smog High NOX
HELP! Failed Smog High NOX
I finally took it in to see just what I am dealing with as far as smog goes.
Car is 1989 305 TPI auto/2.73
This is a KALIFORNIA smog
It is completely stock except magnaflow in the back.
I installed new plugs, wires, cap, rotor, pcv, fuel filter, oxygen sensor, a bunch of new vacuum line, new coolant sensor (computer) new air filters, new oil and filter, cleaned mass air sensor, cleaned throttle body blades. Car has new fuel pump, tank, and recently cleaned injectors.
I did not check the egr valve or any of its components other than fixing bad vacuum hoses. I have not seafoamed anything but did run some fuel injector cleaner through it for a few miles.
Ran it for a good 35 miles got it hot, went right in to smog shop.
Passed everything but NOX....So I would love to hear what I need to do next, I am thinking clean egr passages and new egr, and then a catalytic converter if that does not work.
Any thoughts would be appreciated guys.

Re: HELP! Failed Smog High NOX
Timing that is advanced too far will cause high NOx's, what is your timing set at?

Re: HELP! Failed Smog High NOX
I'd check the EGR valve and look for a plugged hole in the intake where it mounts or maybe a bad gasket. Make sure the hose going to it is in good shape.
Re: HELP! Failed Smog High NOX
timing is set at 5 degrees
I took off the plenum, runners, and egr tonight. All vacuum lines look good no breaks or tore up rubber lines. I believe some carbon in the manifold as I snaked it out. No carbon from runner to egr but from other side I believe clogged.
