Multiple Fuel Pump Failure

Hey Guys,

Hope someone can help here.
I am having an issue with Killing Fuel Pumps in my '91 Z.
I am now on my 4th Pump since Dec. 2011.
The first pump died didnt think much of it as thecar had sat for about 2yrs and not been run in that time.
But the new pump died within the Same Day just hours after replacing.
And the next 2 pumps lasted a couple months and my 4th pump now seems to be on itslast leg and about to go out again.
I have checked the Harness, as well as the Tank is clean, Fuel Lines are clear, and Filter has been replaced.
I believe the relay is as well working properly.
Also I never let the tank run below 1\4 so the pump is properly cooled.

I am at a total loss as to the root cause of what may be killing the pumps.
Any Ideas wouldbe greatly welcomed.

Re: Multiple Fuel Pump Failure

Sounds like a ground or power wire circuit is causing you some problems.

Re: Multiple Fuel Pump Failure

Are you sure your pumps are going bad. Or are dead.
How are you checking the pumps ?
How did you check the fuel pump relay. I only know of one way
and thats to take a wire from the fues box 12 volt acc, and run it
to G pin in the diognistc port. if the bump runs then the problem
is a the fuel pump relay or the ground to it.

Re: Multiple Fuel Pump Failure

I had the same problem on mine, checks your pump with a battery and if it works, your problem is your gauge, the wire on mine was heated and the contact was not good.

Re: Multiple Fuel Pump Failure

Hey guys thanks for all the advise. After all other checks were completed I finaly found the Fuel Pump Killer.
All the time and money spent it turned out to be only a Bad Gas Cap.
Not able to keep constant system pressure causing the pump to be over worked.
Cap changed and thus far no further issues.
