GM Performance serpentine kit and TPI?

I have a 2nd gen Camaro with a 350 small block and Vortec heads. I recently purchased a TPI kit complete with Vortec baseplate that I will be fitting in the near future.

I also want to change the v-belts for a serpentine belt and was interested in the GM Performance serpentine kit 12497698.

Here's a link to the kit. http://www.jegs.com/i/GM+Performance...97698/10002/-1

Does anyone know if this kit will clear the TPI intake? Will it bolt up to Vortec heads?

I'm not interested in the looks (or expense!) of a billet serpentine kit.

Many thanks!

Thanks for noticing I'm from Australia. No TPI cars were ever sold here so there's no chance of getting second here. My power steering pump is on the way out, and I would need to get a reverse rotation water pump, so the fact that these are included in the kit (along with an alternator) makes the price a little better.

So pretty much there should no problem with the GM kit fitting with a TPI in place?

No problem that I can see. That's the same kit my 89 came with. What accessories are you going to run? It's a real clean way to run an AC comp. and an air pump, but since I now have only power steering, water pump and alternator, that kit is actually a LOT of extra stuff cluttering the engine bay. I'm running TWO delete pulleys on the passenger side bracket. ....my plan it to run the simple March style mid-mount kit. the alternator is clocked different, and it's a different water pump too, but it looks SO much cleaner.

It should work just fine , The drivers side bracket is the issue for tpi , vs tbi trucks brackets. It comes with part number 10105212 witch is the lower mount alternator bracket like the tpi car uses.

Here's a link to what I'm gonna do. Not as flashy as the march kit, and less money. Now you DO need a water pump, but mine is on the way out. ...and of course the alternator is clocked to mount differently as well.

I have power steering and a Vintage Air AC kit. The AC compressor is on the passenger side. I'm currently running Alan Grove Components mid-mount brackets on the AC and alternator. I don't have or need an air pump over here.

That looks nice but I think I prefer the kits that only have a single belt and a tensioner.

Re: GM Performance serpentine kit and TPI?

IMO, your best bet is to have someone pull most everything off of a TPI F-Body and ship it to you. There are additional brackets specific to the TPI that are said to be important to keep the aluminum brackets from fatiguing (they are thick round stock BTW). Make sure that you get one from a TPI F-Body and NOT a TBI F-Body as the brackets are different. I would try to locate someone parting out a TPI F-Body that you feel is competent and that you can trust to remove every nut, bolt bracket from the block and manifold so you’re not left in the cold trying to figure out or locate parts. There are specific stand offs and star headed bolts (of different lengths) specific to the assembly and it’s just that much nicer to have everything there. If they are willing, get the wiring (and ground) for the alternator or at least the connector or pic of it. I would want the power steering pump and lines; even if the pump is worn at least you have what it takes to hook it all up. (Make sure they cap off the end of the hoses though.) I'd pay them a little extra for their time and you'll still be better off than paying $700 for new stuff IMO. Another benefit is that if you are on good terms they may be able to help with additional parts or be able to locate them for you if you run into issues later on.
Having said that, the kit looks pretty decent and looks to include the pigtail for the alt and a couple of the brackets I mentioned, but it's hard to say if they're for a TPI F-body though.

I would not necessarily want the water pump, but would order a new/re-manufactured one. Make sure that you get the pulley (and bolts) from it though, -and from the crank, that may easily be overlooked.

Here is a link to removing the smog pump which will help you with the routing, and part number of the belt that you will need.

Hope that helps.
