What and Why.....

1) What is the black nipple comming out of the plenum?

2) Waht are possible causes of the build up in the TB?

a) unknown mileage on motor; L98 350
b) PVC lines are clear, new valve.
c) some smoke on start up
d) good oil pressure, recent change
e) new plugs, old ones looked ok
1) shouldve done comp check, didnt.
f) leaks underneath, havent been able to isolate exactly where.

Re: What and Why.....

The first isn't so much a nipple as a bracket. I grabbed one of those from the junkyard the other day, it's for the spark plug loom to rest on (I was lucky to still have it on mine).

The second is a coolant passageway. If the coolant isn't changed, it will tend to leave gunk in the system.

Nope, thats not coolant. Thats the top of the Tbody. Its oil residue from the pass side valve cover breather tube and is normal, as long as its not dripping all over.

Nope
Coolant passage is underneath the TB

Area under the TOP cover is connected to pass side rocker cover ( port is visible on the left of pic )
when engine has excessive blowby, oil will pass back to the TB as shown

Wrong again
The plastic piece that goes there holds the accel cable and TV cable in correct alignment to the TB linkage
