TPI 305 running rich
Any suggestions on how to adjust mixture? Or suggestions on tuner software/program? I removed the CAT and smog pump because the cat was clogged and the smog pump was bad.
Thanks for any help

Re: TPI 305 running rich
I assume that your SES light is on. If not, does it work? First you could start by extracting the ECM error codes that are stored. You might want to erase them first by removing the battery cable for a minute. Then take it for a test drive and let it store some codes.
I believe it runs rich in the so called limp-home mode of operation, so that might be it. A common factor that causes super rich condition is a bad temp sensor, or one that isn't being read right due to some other wiring issue. When bad, they tend to make the ECM think that it's really cold outside so it runs really rich to compensate. Unless you have changed your fuel pressure or swapped to higher flowing injectors, you don't need to "adjust" anything. The key is getting all the sensors working and the ECM happy, then your car will usually run good.
I suggest buying an ALDL cable and downloading something like TunerProRT to see what the computer is thinking. If it's a bad temp sensor, you'll spot it right away with the ridiculous reading being displayed.
I hope you didn't cut the harness connectors when you removed the A.I.R. pump. The computer couldn't care less about the cat. It cares allot about the O2 sensor though and you don't want leaks or holes in your exhaust anywhere near it.

Re: TPI 305 running rich
thanks for the advice. it's not running real rich when I start the car it blows out black carbon onto the ground and sometimes when I am going down the road and punch it it blows some white smoke. I did not cut any wires to the pump and I just installed a new O2 sensor in the left exhaust manifold The ses light does come on from time to time but does not stay on I tried to get a parts store to scan for codes but none where able to be pulled up

Re: TPI 305 running rich
you use a paperclip to check for codes, then just count your SES light flashes.

Put a new cat on and the rich smell.will go away. No need to do anything else. If you notice you got the rich smell after removing cat ang smog pump. Replace those things and the smell will go away.
