hi, im looking to buy a 1986 camaro z28 305tpi. as we were looking at it. we noticed it had a miss the guy who owns had a new distributor and distributor cap in it. and a whole new computer system in the engine. and it still didnt fix it. the weird thing is. it only has the miss while it idles in gear if its in park it doesnt do it but when you drop it into reverse or drive or overdrive and let it idle in gear it will do it. once you take off and drive it doesnt do it. we are having a scope/compression test run on it next weekend but i was hoping someone on here may have a little idea what it could be. it ran like a champ. its just a slight miss. we had a friend that is a mechanic hook up a code reader and it said it had a miss fire. and he suggested that we have a compression and scope test done on it. any help is much appreciated.

I would search idle misfire on here. As for my 2 cents, check for vacuum leaks.

Just look up "idle misfire", I know there are tons of threads on it, I've looked them up recently myself while troubleshooting issues with my spark.

Again, I would check for vacuum leaks. Also, check your base timing. Either can cause a misfire at idle that would smooth out at higher rpms.
