my car was running fine then shut off without warning now it wont start, i shot it with starter fluid and nothing, everything is brand new, any help would be awesome, thanks

 

How does your coil look. Fill me in with whats new with your ignition set up

 

What about your ignition control module under the distributor cap ? Sudden no spark issues usually come from that

 

entire spark system is brand new

 

GM said i might have snapped my timing chain

 

i do have another ICM though

 

Does the engine turn over? If it does the timing chain is probably fine and its very unlikely that you'd just break the chain. Make sure all your grounds are good on the back of the cylinder heads and that nothing else is unplugged.

 

it turns over and all grounds are fine, just checked them

 

it was running then tink, then it just shut down

 

You must have a wire off somewhere. Any after market ignition parts or all stock

 

all stock, just checked the wires again, everything is hooked up

 

i replaced them all to stock specs

 

Can you take the module out of the cap and have it tested. Advance auto/ autozone and oreillys can all test it. Don't let them tell you other wise.

 

Same thing happened to my 85 and was a bad ICM so give that a shot

 

i have a good ICM, ima go replace it real quick

 

 

replaced it and no change im out of ideas

 

pull a plug a touch it to the header while you crank it to verify no spark and lets go from there

 

Also take a pic of you distrib. for me I wanna see if you have a top mount coil and if you do take the cap and and see if something may have fried

checked it all when replacing the ICM, everything is fine, it only has 4000 on it

Start with the basics check for power koeo on the coil grey connector pink wire and trouble shoot from there. Im not sure how many kv your spark tester is or adjustable gap but use a 40kv tester. Not to second guess you but have you done a compression test or actually check for spark or are you just throwing parts at the car?

So if your coil is getting juice then your problem is going to be somewhere within the cap and rotor because it's not connecting to send the spark to the wires just make sure before you start ripping into that the wire is securely connected from the coil to the cap

does the key need to be in the on position, then check the pink wire?

 

Do you have all of the old parts from your tune up?? If you do the easiest way to check it, is to slowly start putting them back on until the car starts. That's how I would do it it should only take about an hour or so but start from the simplest things first

 

If you want to check for power I would think so, It wouldnt be a constant

pink wire has 11.88 volts

 

coil has power and wire didnt so its between coil cap and dist

 

ill replace the coil reel quick

 

your battery surface voltage is a little low , you can check the primary and secondary resistance of the ign coil. Im not sure why you are unwilling to test anything but if you insisted on being a parts replacer not a mechanic good luck with your repairs.

 

went side to charge the battery and all relays and other thing started clicking and humming

ive went through the entire wire harness 4 times, all wires are fixed and pluged in

 

i have DMM but i dont how to use it all that well, my mechanic is on vacation

 

im just going to sell it or buy a new wire harness, 2000 as is
