Engine ID
The PO said that the engine was rebuilt. It is strong and emmissioned better than most new cars. My questions is, how can I verify the engine has been rebuilt/replaced, or just very well taken care of?
Figured I could post it here since it is a TPI engine.
Thanx in advance.

Re: Engine ID
look at the block casting number behind the drivers cylinder head for the block id, the suffix is on the block on the front passenger side you can see if it matches your vin. doing a compression test and looking though the valve cover hole to see if there is much discoloration or coking from lack of oil changes is all you can do.

Re: Engine ID
IMO the only way you'll truly be able to see if it's been recently rebuilt is with receipts, or tearing the motor apart and looking at wear on the cylinders, rings, and bearings.
Now if it's been replaced, that's much easier to find out. Like mentioned above, look at the block casting numbers. Depending on how "strong" of a motor it is, check under the valve cover for the head casting numbers. If they rebuilt the motor using the same block, but with performance in mind, there's a pretty good chance it won't have 083 heads. If it's the original block casting number, and 083 heads, I would imagine it hasn't been replaced, but just rebuilt.
