Fuel pump recommendations

So my fuel pump just went on my 5.7 89 gta and needs to be replaced. I do plan on making it a little faster over the years (exhaust intake cam heads things like that) maybe an ls swap in a million years but that along time from now lol. So figured it would be smart to replace the pump with some better then stock. What do you guys think? Also would it be wise to install an adjustable pressure regulator as well? I've heard of good gains from increasing the fuel pressure. Any and all suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks in advanced, Nick

Re: Fuel pump recommendations

I'd do te standard qalbro 255lph pump for sure and an adjustable fpr. Sometimes you can make a TPI engine run stronger by giving it more ignition lead time and increasing fuel pressure. Especially if you are making the engine breath better by adding a better intake system or exhaust system.. More ignition lead means you are giving the engine more time to burn the fuel in each revolution. Giving it more time usually means it can burn more fuel. The more fuel you can efficiently burn=the more power you are making.. Goodluck! Cut the hole,in the floor for the fuel pump. Big time saver.

Re: Fuel pump recommendations

I went with the racetronix 255lph and the wiring harness to go with it. I was going to get the holly AFPR but I figured I should just wait until I take the intake off anyway. Or is it still a good idea to buy it? Is there a way to install the AFPR without removing the plenum?

Thanks for all of the input it was a very helpful!

Re: Fuel pump recommendations

Replacing the fuel pump/sender unit/in tank lines is on the short list of things I need to do on my Formula. I'm thinking of going with the Walbro but haven't decided yet. Are any mods needed for the Walbro or other pumps discussed here, or are they a direct fit? It seems most people on the message borad don't like the original replacement AC Delco pumps very much.

From what I have read the pump I bought is a direct fit. I'll find out for sure when I install it in a couple of weeks though.
