Valve Lashing

I followed the book on how to lash (adjust) my valves, tightening the rocker arm nut. And, I can freely spin some push rods but not others, is this bad?

Also I lost a rocker arm nut, can i just use any nut?

Thanks

Re: Valve Lashing

DO them again.

You need a rocekr nut, they lock, a regular nut will back off.

Re: Valve Lashing

If some valves are open and others closed, depending on which cylinder you look at, ofcourse some will spin because no spring load on the pushrod.

When you do the method for adjusting lifter preload, (not lashing valves because hyd cans dont have lash) you generally want to set preload at 1/2-1 turn past zero preload or refered to as zero lash where pushrod starts to have resistance when you try to spin. After adjusting near 1 turn more the pushrod should be tight. However after rotating motor over a few times to set other lifters/rockers, when you come back to the first one you did, they may feel loose again. Thats just lifter bleeding down and is normal

Re: Valve Lashing

Alright thanks for the help, came back to do it again the day after and i guess the lifters settled as someone said and they could spin but not move up and down. Thanks again!
