vacum advance distibutor with tpi

no this isnt ur typical question and no im not looking to ditch the ecm control.
i need to trouble shoot a minor ignition system issue on my iroc , my friend has a regular vacum advance hei distributor i can drop in just to test real fast , to eliminate my computer controller distibutor, and stand alone ecm system as the issue

will it pysically fit with a tpi intake?

It will fit as long as the vacuum canister is in the right place. Early TPI cars and vettes used the large cap computer HEI so it should fit.

thanks i thought it would just wasnt sure. trying to diagnose a ignition breakup above 4k rpms , i belive im getting interference on the ref line causing the issue. new moudle, new plug wires, ac delco rts42's, and new coil

if i swap in the other distributor and the issue goes away then i have some more digging to do

To get you base around the same when the engine is warm throw a timing light on it it maybe from 10-13 advanced without the est disconnected. The small port under the tb is ported vacuum for the advance. I think this might work but to get DRP try hooking the tach wire to the purple and white wire from the icm.

i probably wont even use the vacum advance , prolly drop it in with 6* base and go for a ride and see what it does.

i orginally thought it was spark blowout but i disconnected the intercooler pipes and clamped red shop rags over the turbo outlets to keep them from overspeeding and went for a drive and its doing the same thing

I was just thinking will a TPI even run without the computer style HEI? Doesn't the ECM need a tach signal to fire the injectors?

i can use the tach terminal on the distributor to supply my ecm with the signal needed to fire the injectors, just need to place the ecm in fuel only mode , instead of fuel and spark control,

im headed over to work on the car shortly ill let u guys know how it turns out

Re: vacum advance distibutor with tpi

well it wasnt ignition related , the injectors were overheating at higher pulsewidths and shuting down randomly
