sorta intermittent Code 54

Well I have an intermittent code 54 on my 87 IROC-Z 350 TPI. Description says low voltage at fuel pump or relay or failure in quad driver.
I have a spare ecm and have swapped that out so unless the quad driver is bad on both that is not the issue.
I currently cannot find my multimeter so I am not able to check voltages.

Basically what happens is from time to time, more often as of late, the car will not start easily. It take an uncharacteristically long crank time to get her to fire and this sets the code.
Usually I barely have to touch the key and she fires right up. But lately not so much.
When this first started I did a fuel pressure test and found 10psi on prime when the issue was present. Once started the fuel pressure was where it needed to be ~35-45. I have a couple of extra 5 pin relays and have tried switching them out to no avail.
Even when it sets code 54 the car run's normally once she's started. Most of what I find on the forums where this code is set involves a car running terribly, and this is not the case for me.
There are no other codes set.
As soon as I am able I will test voltages but I may have to buy a new multimeter to do it.
Any suggestions?

The ecm is reading the voltage at pin b2 at the ecm a red wire. Check the voltage there when you find your vom. You may find a corroded connecter at the ecm or fuel pump relay.

I will check that as soon as I am able.
Would that account for the low prime pressure but normal running pressure?

The fact that I get 10 psi at prime but normal pressure running throws me.

Re: sorta intermittent Code 54

It sounds like there is a power or ground issue to the relay or pump or the pump maybe drawing to many amps causing outpu at the 2 second prime to be low.

I found my meter and went to check pin B2 but mine is not red, it is brown(tan)/white. pin b1 is orange. Either way she fired and primed right so Ill have to catch it when the issue occurs.

Edit: its is tan/white at the ecm but the prime connector is red at the relay. Just checked a diagram.

Re: sorta intermittent Code 54

Sorry I looked at a 89 schematic for the 165 ecm they must have changed the wire colors.

Re: sorta intermittent Code 54

Strangely enough the car seems to have sorted itself out, hasn't had this issue in several weeks.
What I was able to tell was when the issue presented itself it seemed there was about 11.75v at the pin on the ecm for the pump prime.
Like I said though, seems to have sorted itself out.
Thanks for the tips.
