88 Formula 350 - Wont start without carb cleaner and runs rough
I just picked up an 88 Formula 350. It starts really hard unless you spray some carb cleaner in, then it fires right up. Also, it runs a little rough, almost like the cat was clogged. I took the cat off tonight and only a few things fell out, but otherwise it was fine (looks like it was hollowed out). I didn't really run it long enough to see if the cat was the issue since my neighbors would shoot me running something that loud at 11 pm. Anyways, what else could it be? Injectors or throttle position sensor maybe? Thanks!

If it only starts on carb cleaner, you've got a fuel issue. Your going to have to start backtracking. See if the fuel pump is coming on, does it have enough volume? Fuel filter may be clogged, if those are fine you can move forward to the injectors and regulator and check them. Pulling the codes might help but these computers are very basic and probably will just tell you that you have a fuel issue, which is obvious lol

Thats what I figured it was, something with fuel. If I remember correctly the codes were 22, 34 and 42 or something like that and they were the throttle position sensor, something with the map sensor, and not enough oxygen.

And of you start it cold with the carb cleaner it runs fine, but if you go to start it again within a few hours it runs like crap and wants to stall. The guy said he did just put a new fuel pump on though
