1991 firebird 305 tbi runs rough at idel

every so often when I start my car up, it will rev the rpm to about 1,100, stay there for only a few seconds and then it plummets to 0. But if you push on the gas, it sounds really rough and sometimes it doesn't do anything. Just cuts off the flow completely it seems. After about 3-5 minutes of playing with the gas it will clear out whatever is going on and run fine. it's just super random and my dad and I have tried multiple things and none have yet to help the problem.

Check the vacuum connector to the MAP sensor. Did a TBI rebuild on my '88 the other day, disconnected the MAP vacuum hose from the throttle body and forgot to connect it afterwards. When it started up it sounded like it was starving for fuel. After about a minute it would clear up and run fine. Did it every time I started it up. Luckily I have a scan tool and it told me my MAP voltage was too high, also turned on the CEL, reconnected it, had no problem. Check your IAC valve as well, it may be starving for air. Good luck.
