88 firebird formula 5.0 , carb or injected? Swapping in a 350 vortec fuel injected
Ok so I have a 88 firebird formula 5.0, I just bought a 350 vortec out of a 99 Yukon ... It's fuel injected, my problem is I bought it because the cover over my filter says "FUEL INJECTION" , but everyone is telling me that my year firebird is carbureted and will cost a lot to swap it or change intakes, can someone please reassure me that this will be a "SIMPLE" swap. Your 88 should be throttle body injection. They look similar to a carb but is basically two fuel injectors over a hole. Your vortec engine will still work. You'll need an aftermarket TBI intake with a vortec bolt pattern. Your current intake manifold will not bolt up to the heads. You won't be able to use your egr system either unless you run an exhaust tube off a exhaust mainfold or header.
