TPI "learn"?
Does tpi systems "learn" or lose memory when the battery is disconnected?
I seem to remember something about fi systems that learned some driving habits and adjusted accordingly. (Somewhat)
I've had the battery out of mine a couple times in the last few weeks and it idles really rough and wants to stall each time after I had the battery out. It's been a week since the last time the battery was out now, and it's just now beginning to idle somewhat normal again. (granted it hasn't been completely perfect since I got it running... LOL)

It loses any learned setting in SAM ( Stay Alive Memory) when the battery is disconnected.

Re: TPI "learn"?
Thanks Brian. How long does it normally take for it to relearn?
I'm still having idle issues, but it got really bad after I had the battery unhooked. Now it's getting back to "normal". LOL

IIRC usually around 30 min of drive time, you did end up getting new injectors after cleaning the old ones ?

Re: TPI "learn"?
Here is what the SM states for '88:
ECM Learning Ability
The ECM has a "learning" ability which allows it
to make corrections for minor variations in the fuel
system to improve driveability. If the battery is
disconnected to clear diagnostic codes, or for repair,
the "learning" process has to begin all over again. A
change may be noted in the vehicle's performance. To
"teach" the vehicle, make sure the engine is at
operating temperature, and drive at part throttle,
with moderate acceleration and idle conditions, until
normal performance returns.

Re: TPI "learn"?
Yea, I got the south bay injectors. And got the correct signal to the ecm through the sgi-5 finally, (after I got tuner pro working LOL)
I've put around 6000 miles on it this summer, but it never has totally idled like it should. Sometimes it idles fine, other time it stumbles, then sometimes the idle rpm goes up and down. I've checked for vacuum leaks and can't find any.
I'm thinkin the timing chain may be loose and/or I'm getting some sort of spark chatter from the distributer. (worn gear or shims maybe)
Thanks MrPackstin. Good info to know. lol
