fuel pump help!!!!

so my fuel pump went out and this weekend hopefully i will get under there to see what im dealing with. its an 1989 firebird formula my only worry is i might need to replace the sending and reciving units. how often does that need to be done i mean i live in maine so its rough on the cars but mine ran great untill this. also if i where to have to replace eitrher just the pump or the whole system whats the best parts and all that to go with? id hate to have to do this all again in a few years just to save a buck but im in college so i dont want to loose much either. also my car was sputtering and running pretty bad before the pump went out could that be a symptom of the pump? thanks

I don't know the best sending unit to get but for the fuel pump get the walbro 255 with a new relay, Don't buy one from the local parts store, You would be lucky to get one that will last more than a month, walbro makes a a good pump that last.

Re: fuel pump help!!!!

I just replaced my pump a few weeks ago, you can't go wrong with a walbro pump. Unless your fuel guage isn't working properly or for some reason there is damage to the sending unit or lines then you shouldn't need to replace the sending unit.
