electrical timing code ?

I am new to this site but looks very helpful. I have a 1988 IROC 5.7 TPI. I have got a few codes off if it. One was Mass Airflow, which I replaced today. One was low voltage to fuel pump, which I am not sure why cause it was replaced last year and car starts a run fine for the most part. The last code was electrical timing ? Not sure what this is, can someone help. I had a mechanic set the timing last year. The problem I am having is car runs great until it warms up. Then when you come to a stop and idol it stalls. Starts back up just fine and runs great when not at idol. I am lost, please help. Thanks

Re: electrical timing code ?

Unhook your battery (will reset the ECM) for a few minutes, then take it for a spin...see what codes pop up...and give us the number...i/e 42, 36, etc...

Re: electrical timing code ?

Thank you, I will try to pull the codes again. I don't have a code reader I had a mechanic do it when he set the timing. I did unhook the battery when I installed the MAF sensor. Check engine light is intermittent. Thanks.

Re: electrical timing code ?

There is a trick to getting the codes. Take a paperclip and go down by where your right knee will be on the dash. You will see a connector there with nothing plugged into it and it may have a cover. Take your paperclip and short together the two upper right pins. Turn your key to the on position (DO NOT START THE ENGINE), the Check Engine Light will blink 1 pause the 2 quick blinks: this is the code for 12- it is normal and tells you that you are in diag mode. it will give you the 12 ode 3 times, after that it will start to give you any stored. For example code 33: 3 quick blinks a pause and 3 quick blinks or code 34: 3 quick blinks a pause and then 4 quick blinks. The computer will give you the code 3 times then move to the next, after it gives you the last one it will return to 12.
note: if you get 4 or more code 12 initially, there are no other codes stored.

Hope this helps.
