Trouble shooting before i upgrade
Hello all,
I have a 1989 Iroc Camaro with the 5.7 TPI.
Ive had the car almost a year and really have just been trying to clean it up and find the pieces that were missing. Now that that part of the project is complete I was looking to make a few upgrades to the TPI system.
I have been doing some research oh the aftermarket set ups available for the TPI and think that I have come to a decision on which one I will be going with. The Holley Stealth Ram. now I understand that this set up does not come with a provision for an EGR. I know that a custom tune will be needed in order for the car to run and perform well. Im just wondering if there are any hidden issues that any of you have experienced that would be of some concern.
The car has a mild Cam in it, which I am unsure of the specs on. (work performed prior to me owning in.) Also it has short tube headers.
Since the car has a few mild upgrades, I wondering that if when I install the Holley Stealth Ram if it would be a waste of money to upgrade the Throttle Body to a twin 52mm.
Thanks in advance for any advice you may offer me!

Go for it. Get your Holley stealth ram, then some Aluminum Pro max 190 heads 64 cc chamber, and a really big HRcam. I would convert over to a 4th gen PCM or aftermarket.

That was kind of my plan. Im not sure exactly which heads or which cam im going to end up with. that's still a little ways out. I plan on owning this car for a long time lol. This is my first project car. and there are many things that I just flat out don't know. There is going to be some learning involved for sure.

Can't beat promax for the price, they are low cost yet stack up well against much more expensive heads like AFR, Brodix. You have lots of options and there are lots of guys on here that have blazed this trail already, so if you have questions ask.
However HR cams last better and deliver better performance, the best stock heads are the Vortec heads, and they are garbage compared to just about any aftermarket aluminum head. Cam intake, heads exhaust is where the power is. Adding displacement helps too.

I will definitely be asking a lot of questions as I go. I'm not looking to build a race car or anything. its not my daily driver but its my summer cruiser. Just looking to have a fun street car.
The only thing I am a little curious about is, how much will not knowing the current cam specs effect the ability to have a decent custom tune?
