fuel gauge on rail

hey guys, not sure if this is the right place to post, but i'm sick and tired of buying harbor freight fuel gauges cuz they keep blowing up (but i cant beat the $19 gauge) I always liked the look of the gauge on the rail but i also know they come with their inherent risks of popping the gauge and leaking fuel all down the headers. Should i just pay the top dollar for a good fuel gauge or put one on the rail? and if on the rail, anyone have any suggestions? i saw one on summitracing but reviews made it sound very cheap.

thanks guys.

Re: fuel gauge on rail

I've seen some REALLY nice installations of electrical pressure sensors plumbed into the port, with the gauge inside the cabin. I thought that was a neat idea.

Re: fuel gauge on rail

one does not go to harbor freight looking for quality , yes , when it comes to fuel , DO NOT skimp. buy something that : #1 does not come from china #2 will not pose a fire hazard .

Re: fuel gauge on rail

I bought mine on Ebay for around $25. It was liquid filled, with the the fitting straight out the back. I went to the hardware store and put together the proper fitting to get it on the rail. Haven't had a leak in several years.

HA!!!! Just found it. It is THIS very gauge (as far as I can tell, lol)

Lol yes i'm aware that harbor freight is not synonymous to quality lol. I was in a bind and each time i bought one of these its always been "well everything is correct so i only need to use it for one day to get the pressure set" then someonthing else would go wrong

the part saying you haven't had a leak in several years is the part that scares me. I am thinking of just buying a decent regular gauge and ditching the idea of it being on the rail cuz of them leaking. ive had such horrible luck the last thing i need is the car to catch fire next lol
