Fuel Injector Delema STILL!
O.K., I know some of you must be sick and tired of this problem I'm having (you know, with the Bosch Ford Motorsport Fuel Injectors that look like LS1 injectors), but this should be the very last of a long line of frustrating questions:
The injectors fit very snuggly into the fuel rail and must be wiggled out much like the stock injectors. As I mentioned before, they are about .25" longer than stock, but they fit deeper into the intake mainfold. SO, I really don't need a retainer clip RIGHT? So long as the damn things fit in place and are in tight, the damn thing should work, RIGHT???!!

If you give me a couple days, I can take a look at my extra intake and take some measurements to see what sorta space there is. I'm thinking if its 1/4" longer that a retainer clip isnt needed, but I am not so sure it is going to fit in there properly.
Can you measure the height of the new injector?

If it is longer I don't think you'll need the clips. Im sure you could even get the stock injectors to stay put without them.. the last time I replaced the o-rings I got some really fat ones and they are very very snug in that rail.

Hey Madmax,
I don't want you to go to any trouble. BUT, since you asked, the stock injectors are 2 and 3/4 inches or 7 cm in length and the new injectors are almost 3 inches, approx 7.5 cm.
I looked in my fuel rail and I saw a step. This step, I believe, is to keep the injector from going too high into the rail. When the new injector is in the rail, it's really in there, and it's pretty hard to get it out. The injector is also stopped by a lip in the bottom of the lower intake manifold, so it won't protrude too far. Seems like a good fit all around.
However, the new injectors do go lower into the intake than the stock injectors. In fact, when I have the new injectors and the stock injectors pushed into the intake manifold, side by side, the new (longer) injector is shorter in height, about .05" or less.
I think the retainer clips are there for nothing!! Because once removed, the stock injectors, are still stuck in the fuel rail like crazy.
I don't know, you tell me. But if this does end up working, then TPI guys can use LS1 Injectors!!

ok, now correct me if I am worng, but won't all this too tall and too short stuff effect how the fuel is sprayed. I mean if you think about it, the injectors are situated in the manifold so that they spray in a very specific design and direction, now if you move where the injector is spaying from, the fuel is not going to be going exactly where it is suposed to, and you may run into poor atomization problems, right? maybe I am wrong, but it is a thought
If the extra length is in the bottom of the injector..that isn't a good thing. This means that the tip of the injector just obstructs airflow. I doubt it is a big deal, I would just try them and see.

The injectors have a plastic collar with a lip at their opening. So the injector opening is held back, while the plastic lip hits the bottom of intake mainifold (holding the injector opening a little further back from the bottom of intake manifold).
Also, what's weird about these injectors is that they have 4 tiny little holes, that look as though they are closed, for their opening. The stock injectors have one larger hole for its opening. So I'm guessing these injectors atomize the fuel far more effectively than the stock injectors.
I feel like we're comparing our technology with that of an alien civilization's.

I am going to guess that the injectors U have will spray 4 smaller cones od fuel compared to the one large cone of most injectors, I am sure either one will work the same, although you are prolly right that the ones with 4 openings will atomize better as less more fuel is being exposed to moving air in a larger area. . . do I make sense? lol, I just had to read over that and laugh. . anyways, good luck either way :-)
