Odd starting issues
The car is an 89 Trans Am GTA, all original L98 car, 48K miles. These are a bit difficult to replicate as it does it randomly. Bit of a sounding board post.
Starting issue 1: This is a bit random, turn the key, no crank, try this a few times, wait a couple second, car fires right up with zero issue. The previous owner replaced the starter at some point. This may be as simple as a lose connection at the trigger wire, or maybe lose wire? It had an alarm removed out of it at some point, so I am guessing they spliced in to the starter relay. Can some post a schematic for the starter circuit?
Staring issue 2: The car has just been driven, you attempt to restart it. It either fires up perfect, or it just cranks. The first time it did this, the starter stopped working due to heat or battery getting a little low. Waited it out maybe 5 minutes? Car fired right up. I found when it tries to do this, if you work the gas pedal with your foot, you can actually get it to fire up. It has the original Multec Rochester, so I am leaning toward they're acting like skanks when they get hot and bothered. The only thing is, if they have issues when they get hot, I should feel it when I drive it, but it seems to be fine.

Re: Odd starting issues
Big 3 ground upgrade...or just use 0 guage amp wire. Should cure heat and battery problems.
I had starting issues due to a ripped fuel pressure regulator...it would start fine in the morning. But after driving gas would gather in the upper plenum. Hard to start after that without pressing the throttle.
idk if these are your problems

Re: Odd starting issues
I ended up ordering the Innovative wiring battery cable kit, I ran one for a while on my LT1 car when the battery was up front and remember it being a nice kit. I also ordered an LT1 Corvette starter and heat wrap. Hopefully that nips that issue in the butt.
The hard start issue is weird, I think similar to your car it must be a fuel issue? I was reading on here, when you hold your foot on the peddle while cranking, it goes in to a clear flood mode. The injectors are original to the car, I ordered some Southbay injectors and a new fuel pressure regulator. The car has sat a ton, so really the work of pulling them, cost of having them checked, may as well just replace them and consider it maintenance.

Re: Odd starting issues
You probably have a bad fuel injector. As it gets hot from running it builds up resistance and then doesn't want to work when you go to restart shortly after stopping. Then you have to wait for the injector to cool then it will start. I had this problem and replaced all of the injectors and never had the problem again.
As for the sometimes starts and sometimes doesn't, could be a wiring problem or it could be the onboard theft protection system going wonky on you. That is the issue I had.

Re: Odd starting issues
The car is actually 100% all original, factory manifolds and all. 89Warbird, it has the original Rochester Multec so it's not hard to believe one or multiple have failed. I ended up ordering some replacements from Southbay. I also ended up ordering a replacement LT1 Corvette style starter and a heat shield. What's weird, after making this post, the car never did any of the above conditions I originally posted about.
