Hi everyone I have an 1986 camaro 305 tpi auto recently it idles high about 1200 and seems to run pretty smooth otherwise ounce warmed up at red lights of your foot isn't on the gas a little the rpms and drop real low and stall.I tried setting min idle but when I got to the point of diaconecting iac and starting it wouldn't start it would crank catch and die.unplug the aldl connector and put the iac back it will run. I found a vacuum leak and thought that was it but aparently not also don't know if it's related but driving down the road doing 40 rpms seem to bounce from like 2000 up 2500 back down to 2000 and over and over if I stay that speed any ideas what is going on

Re: tpi stalling and rough idle problem

Verify the IAC is cleaned, lubricated, and free to move. The IAC has to be removed and disassembled for this. Clean the IAC air passages and throttle body and plate if that has not been done.
