What else can cause a rich start when hot
What else can cause a rich start when hot
Hi
When starting the car with a hot enginge I get longer cranking times and a quite noticable fuel smell. When starting cold it starts fine.
I have ruled out the fuel pressure regulator and the coolant temperature sensor. They are both functioning properly with no leaks in the fpr. Fuel pressure is set by the book. Fuel pressure very slowly bleeds out. And if I restart the car almost immidiatly after shutting it down it starts fine, even hot.
I suspect that one or more injectors are leaking. The only thing odd with that is that I replaced all of eight a year ago and it didnt affect the problem
So, my question is if there is anyting else that can cause this?

Welcome Aboard!
You've covered the basics - FPR diaphragm, injector leakdown (including the cold start injector in early models - Including the CSI controller), and possibly, but less likely, a CTS issue causing the ECM to administer start fuel on every start. That last one is less likely since you mentioned that it starts normally if restarted hot shortly after shut down.
It sound like a classic leaking injector issue, however.

I say ignition related -
Re: What else can cause a rich start when hot
I think I will remove the fuel rail this weekend just to make sure that I dont have any leaks.
Next step might be ignition then. Any ideas how to diagnose that?

Is it a possibility that a malfunctioning oil pressure switch is keeping the engine from starting for a couple of seconds? I've read that with no oil pressure the engine gets no spark
Re: What else can cause a rich start when hot
Whatever you read is incorrect, at least as it applies to GM vehicles. The oil pressure switch has no bearing on the ignition system and does not stop the fuel pump from operating.
