SO IT'S 2017, NEW 12 SECOND L98 SETUPS?
Rather than bring back an old thread, figured I'd start a new one. Reason is cause when I do a Google search, nothing newer than 2012 comes up. I know several guys have done it in the past, but who's doing it today? With a stock or beefed up short block, and a stock style(no super ram, mini ram, or stealth ram) intake. And based on my research it has been done on stock heads and cam. Again this summer I have a LOT going on, but my goal before winter is to at least do heads, cam, and converter on the IROC. The car currently has an Accel base, SLP runners, and ported plenum. Got a set of SLP 1 3/4 headers, an LPE 219 cam, and a 3200 converter that will be going in. Picking up my budget aluminum heads this weekend. I don't see any reason why I shouldn't hit my goal on the motor? Oh, and my plan for a purpose built nitrous motor may get put on hold for a while, found a house I'd like to buy. I hate when life gets in the way of my car projects, lol! Personal experience based input greatly appreciated!

We just put this in my sons 91 with TPI. Have had it at the track twice and it runs 13.40 so far. hope to get it in the 12.9 by end of summer.
stock L98 bottom, crank, rods, pistons (40k miles on bottom). new Melling oil pump. Gasket match Ported aluminum 113 heads. Lunati Barebones 218/228.503.503 cam. New timing chain set. 1.5 roller rockers. stock TPI gasket match ported base. SLP large runners. Stock ported plenum. stock throttle body. shorty headers, cat removed exhaust. MSD 6a box. msd cap, rotor, wires. car has Zexel rear with 3:73 gears. put new 2100 Stall in trans and shift kit.
he is 15 and drives the car to high school. not a real high performance motor but sounds and runs very good. hopefully a little more tuning can get this to the 12.9 times.

I've been 12.90's with just bolt ons with stealth ram which made 254 whp 315 tq. 3400 ish lbs raceweight.
Cam heads will make more power than that so it should go

Orr, your setup is the one I was referring to. Figured if you did it with stock heads and cam, I can get there with both upgraded. Found someone local that does ceramic coating, gonna drop my headers off next week. Once that's done, I'll have everything I need to give this a shot before winter... If I get time, lol! Like I said, main reason i threw this out there if cause I'm pretty sure cylinder head and cam technology has continued to improve the last five years, so wanted to see who's currently running the number.

Just run it in a top-fuel trap set. At 100 meters less, it should break the 12s without too much trouble.
Sorry, no help here otherwise.
