So my and my husbands car is really starting to be a pain in the a**. Had a code 33/34 with other damage from when we let his little brother borrow it. Replaced the MAF along with alternator, fuel pump, temp sensor, radiator and O2 sensor. After all that work and a big bill now we have a code 36/44. Replaced and cleaned the MAF, MAF Burnoff, and fuel pump relays. Also cleaned the connection ports. Had the shop inspect the wires and connections and they couldn't find anything so they suggested replacing the ECM. Did that and still had the codes. They found a clogged fuel line and cleared it but still didn't work. They said everything they've done still leads to a bad MAF. Replaced it again under warranty but still nothing. We have the autozone DL-6014 which is identical to the "rich-porter" MAF so it shouldn't be the problem. Any ideas or help is greatly appreciated.

 

I have seen improper relays cause code 36
The proper relays are

Power relay...........10067925
Burnoff relay..........10094701
Correcting the code 36 might fix the code 44.

What brand are those parts? We took the relays into napa and they gave us the replacement relays since the old ones are not available anymore

The code 36 is an maf burn off and code 44 is lean exhaust.

 

you can cross reference part numbers for correct relays.

Good news and bad news. Took the car into the shop to have the codes read. Replacing the MAF cleared the codes 36/44. Didn't do anything with the sensors. However, now we have codes 43/53 and the car is running like crap.

 

Did you look at the prom I'd numbers ?

 

Sorry, don't know what you mean. The guy at the shop said the codes should refelect a grounding wire issue or another relay. He said to check all the wires and connections and see if the check engine light goes off.

 

He also said to check the vacuum lines for leaks and make sure all the connections for the air intake system are tight.

 

A faulty alternator voltage regulator can cause the 53. Voltage effects the way the car runs.
With the code 53 the car might be in limp home mode causing the rich running condition.
