Fuel and Static
There seemed no obvious catagory to post this tidbit on, so I chose TPI since it has to do with the fuel system.
My car nearly burst into flames yesterday at the gas station. A few times a year I add some STP Fuel Injector cleaner to a full tank. I got out at the gas station and "Mohammed" opened the gas door and took off the cap. I uncorked the STP and the instant it touched the filler neck, *crack* went a spark and the small amount of STP in the filler neck was actually on fire! I think I stood there for a second not beleiving what I was seeing, then I took a deep breath and blew it out. Mohammed was none the wiser but I bet he was wondering why I was a few shades paler when he came back to my side of the pump.
Moral of the story, watch the static electricity this time of year, ground yourself before touching that filler neck with anything out of the usual, it could save you car!

I think I would check to make sure you have the ground wire connected to the filler and at the tank(or at the body I can't remember where) and that it ain't cut some place.
