89 formula 350 fuel problem

So I bought a 89 formula 350 that hasn't ran since 2002. I've done a tune up on it, new fuel pump, checked fuel lines, checked fuel pressure regulator etc. I'm getting spark but feels like I'm not getting fuel. Maybe it's the injectors but would all of them be bad? I've had it running from spraying gas in the plenum but that's it.

Re: 89 formula 350 fuel problem

Have you checked injector pulse with a noid light ?
I would change the injectors contact South Bay fuel injectors.
If they are stock multecs they are junk. Sitting for so many years I would bet they are all clogged stuck shut.

I haven't yet. My noid light doesn't work properly so I'm gonna have to pick one up probably tonight if they're not expensive. Injectors shouldn't be too hard to change right?

Injectors are pretty easy to change. The runners and plenum need to be removed. Here’s what multecs look like.

Btw you need 22#hr injectors. You can get gaskets from them too.

You can use just a regular incandescent bulb in place of a noid light. Just needs to have some resistance so you don't burn out the driver in the ECM? Someone correct me if I am wrong. I usually just bend the legs out from a 194 bulb and stick that in the injector connector.

Fellow 89 Formula 350 owner here. I suggest you not remove the plenum to get to the injectors unless you know you have to. I didn't see mention of testing the resistance to them. They should all be close. Make sure the wiring harness is properly seated on each injector. One bad one or one bad connection can ruin your day.

Re: 89 formula 350 fuel problem

I pushed down on them to make sure they were all connected. I guess for it not being run in so long the injectors could've went. And just to rant, is the filler neck connected to your gas tanks as well? Because that sucked dropping the tank.

Re: 89 formula 350 fuel problem

I tell ya, I didnt mind dropping the rear end but that gas tank drove me crazy. And is putting the 22lbs injectors in it going to give me noticable performance?

Stock size injectors for a 350.
I wouldn’t worry about injector impedance if they are multecs. The coils fail when warm in your case you have a no start.

Re: 89 formula 350 fuel problem

Alright, new fuel filterxblew out the gas lines. Checked injectors with noid light(they are pulsing), and did fuel pressure test (goes up to 45psi). Now it cranks and makes popping sounds like it wants to start. I'm assuming its definitely my injectors being that they sat for so long. If someone has a different thought can you point me in the right position?

Yup, injs are gummed up. Can sometimes remove the nasty stuff with lacquer thinner and pulsing them but honestly if they are the original multi-tecs, do yourself a favor and replace them.

Re: 89 formula 350 fuel problem

UPDATE: finally bought some southbay injectors, good people btw, and she started right up. Had to mess with the timing for 5 minutes and now she idles smoothly. Now to check the rear diff fluid, pump up the tires, and see if she'll go up the road.
