I remember back on my 86 T/A, there was often a wonder if the MAF was causing issues or not. That was 25 years ago before we all had lap tops we could use to scan and check. So, now I will have a spare ECM and MAF in my parts bin as back ups. I will swap the MAF, hopefully the Code 36 goes away, but store the one currently installed one away safely for the just in case.

Right now I am having fun with the rear Brakes... I will install the MAF once it is on the ground and I will update here about how the brakes come out.
I keep a spare MAF and ECM in stock also. Really helps when you are chasing a tuff diagnostic issue. Keep us posted for sure.

I am being lazy with the rear brakes. I need to get as motivated to stay int he garage until 11pm like I am to watch football. I keep hoping for those magical Saturday's with nothign else going on. With 2 kids, that never happens once school is back in session.

Yep, sure will once I pull it out. I only get an hour here and there to work on the car(s). Between watching the kids when my wife is at class, having a salary management job, kids guitar lessons, kids swimming lessons, coaching football, cutting grass, and other stuff around the house... my car hobby fits in there somewhere. I am sure any parents on here can relate.

ditto, you just described my life. I am impressed you can get a solid hour in. I am happy with 20 minutes a week on the car.

New MAF... Seal not so good, and threaded holes missing. Not used in the installation in my car. I used a slight bit of black RTV on the seal and pressed set it back down in the groove. Hope it sticks.

So is that Delphi is actually a new Bosch unit? There is a big Bosch logo on there. It’s not a rebuild, correct?

Looks like a refurbished Bosch unit in a Delphi box to me.

Everything else is as I remember it from the good old days with my 86 (Back in 95 LOL)

Interesting, they are not advertised as rebuilt Units. But I could see Delphi doing that.

The spec sheet states these are supposed to new not reman units. Wonder if you got a returned part from someone that was resold
  • Engineered with the same stringent standards applied to the parts we make for the top global OEMs
  • Our proprietary sensing elements provide highly accurate airflow readings to the ECU over a wide range of ambient temperatures
  • Manufacturer of OE calibrated mass air flow sensors since their first use over 30 years ago
  • Our Mass Air Flow sensors reduce repair time by eliminating the need to replace the flow tube
  • New, not Remanufactured

Re: Operation TPI Glory underway. Code 34 and Tuning

So far, code 36 has gone away and stayed off after clearing the computer when I installed. Granted it has nto received much driving as I am still adjusting/bleeding brakes. The dang Delco Morain system is a PIA. I am going to give customer support a call and let them know about this. I am happy to have an OE style though.

Re: Operation TPI Glory underway. Code 34 and Tuning

As long as it is working well the Bosch is the best unit to have. After about 50 starts you will know for sure it’s fixed your 36. Those Wells/spectra units are garbage. I am not sure why they always throw a code 36 even if they send back good readings.

Fuel Pump... see up above about the leaking rail while fighting the Code 34 as well. Found an open fitting on the intake pipe while at it.

Lack of fuel could have been a contributing factor.

I also have a burnt wire at the fuse closest to the battery and it burnt the body ground I found the cause of it. The alternator wire had been cut by my V-belt shitty set up can't wait for the serpentine setup because that fried almost all my body grounds. I really just need to know where the fuse wires that are closest to the battery go I fixed everything else

Re: Operation TPI Glory underway. Code 34 and Tuning

I haven't posted in a while because I got hung up on the brakes and winter time. Quick summary on the brakes, after all the new stuff and adjustments, I guess I expected less pedal travel than I paid for LOL. Brakes are great. I did the spring upgrade, new Master, Stainless Lines, Stillen Rotors and pads in the rear, Powerstop kit up front.... and they perform every bit as good as they day she was made.

Code 36 has stayed away with the MAF change. No More fuel leaks, all lights working... etc. Should be ready for a good summer (I Hope)

If you are curious about the adventures with the brakes, you can see the threads here and here. I can do a dang brake job with my eyes closed now. some good info in there about adjusting the parking brake and pads on the Delco Morain calipers and some other things to watch out for.
