Opinions for a street cam and heads 305 tpi 5 speed car
I'd like to just dump my stock 305 heads since the valve seals are worn and build some power with just after market heads Nothing super agressive "used or new" and a streetable/strip cam .
I believe I read the 5,speed 305 cars came with a better cam then the autos. But obviously I'm looking for more power to wake the car upbwhere all the stock stuff can't.
Goal is to keep it cam and heads maybe bigger injectors. I don't wanna go all out but I want a nice lope to the whole setup without having to do any other mods besides heads cam and new gaskets on all the parts it takes to get the job done.
Any combo ideas? And if I ever decide to go 5.7L Id like these heads to be swappable. All in all I want more power cars a dog just like any other stock 80s 90s econo motor seems to be no different then the 5.0 came in the 89-93 tbirds.

The only info I have to offer is if you plan on going >=350 don't waste money on heads now. You will not be able to get a set of heads the will work well on both the 305 and the 350. The heads you will need/want for the 350 will not fit (specifically the valves) in the small 305 bore.

There's still time to put that can of worms down, there's no need to open it. 305s are slow. Nothing is really going to change that. But still, if it feels like a Ford Luxobarge, you might want to determine exactly what you're working with. From your other posts, it sounds like the car has been messed with a bit. Is it still the original engine? Dual cat car? G92? What gear ratio is in the rear end?
If someone swapped in whatever TBI 305 they found laying around, and you've got 2.77 or 2.73 gears, yeah it's going to feel slower than molasses in January.

Just recondition stock heads
Cam wont do much without supporting intake mods and definitely will need tuning
Only set of heads to run that could swap over to a 350 would be trickflow small bore 175’s but they are small for a 350. Oem vortecs with 1.94 valve could work but you would need vortec base.
Lot of money to spend for little gain
We did a cam only L98 and it only made 224 whp. Basically no gain

Re: Opinions for a street cam and heads 305 tpi 5 speed car
I should say if you wanted to heads cam 305 or really just cam the stock head 305 you will need to ditch tpi for something that can rev like a stealth ram or proflo or singleplane
You can put tpi on any 350 block and heads, may have to oval the center 4 intake bolts. Only thing is tho, you should try to maintain the oem hyd roller cam stuff found in 87-99 roller blocks. Makes cam swap cheaper as you can use ls7 style lifters which are 200$ now instead of buying retrofit parts
Tpi kills power in any case. If you want tpi best bet in the end is a First unit or find big mouth type base and large tube runners

Heads on a TPI 305. GM Vortec heads are a good replacement and work well with the 305 (can be used later on a 350). There are articles out there about putting them on a 305.
A stock LT1 cam is a mild upgrade. It is slightly bigger than the 305 G92 cam.

I did this years ago for the 305.
-Vortec heads
-ZZ4 cam
-SDPC intake
-Shorty headers
-Large tube runners
-1094 felpro .015 head gasket
made 257 RWHP and the car ran 13.50 at 101 MPH in the 1/4 with the 5 speed.
