CTS and Fan Switch...

I believe I know the answer to this but I thought I would confirm...are the coolant temperature sensor and fan switch two separate units?

You are correct. The CTS is in the front oif the intake and is used by the ECM to control various temperature dependant functions.

The Fans Switch is in the pass. side head for the 2ndry cooling fan.

Thank you. I thought they were both separate units, but I just wanted to double check.

Which one is on the drivers side between the 1 and 3 spark plugs? Can that be the fan switch...I've heard some years had them on different sides?

And the CTS is definately by the front of the intake?...I'll have to look for that when I head there on the weekend.

On the driverside head is the sending unit for the temp gauge.

Also, on your '87, on the front of the intake is the Cold Start Injector Thermal switch, don't confuse it with the CTS.
