could someone help me out with the SLP 51002 cam specs and itīs recommended springs?
Should be a roller camshaft.
SLP - 51002 / CS 3311-3312 / HR112 +4 / H 0137 <- What does that all mean?
Cam specs: What springs (or kit) would you recommend? OEM lifters or special one?
Distributor gear, on pictures it looks like the cam is made out of ductile iron. So iron gear here or melonized?
Pictures attached!
Re: SLP 51002 -matching springs and distributor gear-
Can someone please help me out here?
I bought that cam and now Iīm searching for the matching valvetrain parts.
Also found out the cam and its specs is a combination of the lift & duration from the comp 08-500-8 and the valve timing is the same as the comp 08-300-8.
So I can just buy the matching springs for the 08-500-8 that are either 981-16 or 986-16, right? Maybe I just can purchase all the stuff I need for the comp 08-500-8 since they are nearly comparable.

That's what I would do. Could also make a call to comp cams or crane cams to get their advice.
Re: SLP 51002 -matching springs and distributor gear-
The first thing you need to do, is see what the diameter of the spring is that's on the head. You can't put a 1.430 diameter spring (986) in a head designed for a 1.254 spring.(981)
Next, you need to see what your spring retainer to top of guide clearance is, to make sure you have enough clearance for that lift.
The markings on the end of the cam are from whoever ground it, the 3311 and 3312 are lobe numbers from the grinder's catalog, and the 112 is the centers, with the +4 indicating it's to be installed with the intake lobe on 108 degrees center, also known as 4 degrees advanced.
H0137 is a number used to identify the cam to the grinder.
Hard to tell, but it looks like it's not a billet, but a SADI core. With that mild of a grind it wouldn't be an issue. IF it's a cast iron core/gear, you can run a regular distributor gear.
Re: SLP 51002 -matching springs and distributor gear-
Thanks for your replies,
that is clear for me with the spring diameters. I just have to check what diameter I need to choose for the correct heads.
I want to use the 981 springs with that heads https://www.summitracing.com/parts/tfs-30310005 as soon I get an answer from Trickflow to the retainer to guide clearance.
The springs on that heads would be replaced either way.
The infos were nice, of course I will check the cam gear with a simple magnet to identify. Im using a 5591 MSD Street Distributor which is melonized distributor gear as the description tells. So that should also work but I will double check that.
Oke, installed 4 degrees advanced at 108 intake centerline makes it clear for installing.
Thanks for educating me that I can use that cool old but still new cam!
What does "SADI" stand for? Austempered ductile iron or something like that?
Greetings,
Chris

Re: SLP 51002 -matching springs and distributor gear-
Here are some more detailed pictures of the cam maybe helping you guys to identify the cam material. Since I heard some rumors comp cam made that kind of cam with that grinds I wrote them an email (wait for answer yet). The 08-300-8 and 08-500-8 materials are both "austempered ductile iron" and on the cam pictures on their website it looks similar to my cam material in appearance.
Related to some video you can find on ytb, the recommended distributor gear for my cam should be composite or hardened steel. What do you think about that?
Re: SLP 51002 -matching springs and distributor gear-
SLP cams were designed to work with the stock distributor gear for the TPI engines. If you are overly worried about it, buy a new GM melonized gear and be done.
I've been running my SLP cams for almost 30 years on the stock distributor gears. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/a...make/chevrolet
