Replaced fuel regulator

Ok guys so I had a big issue today while replacing my regulator. When I took it off, fuel just kept pouring out of the fuel rail, where the regulator sits. And it would not stop, I had to hurry up and put the new one on. It literally kept leaking. Not even leaking, it kept pouring out. My intake was also filled with gasoline when I took it off to replace the regulator. Any ideas of what this could be. And yes I had the battery disconnected, so there was no power to the fuel pump or injectors.

Re: Replaced fuel regulator

Did you open the gas cap to let the pressure out?

A little pressure is all it takes to keep is flowing.

Re: Replaced fuel regulator

And it’s funny you mention it. Because I went to go get gas. And you could hear all the air hissing out as I removed the cap. And this is why I’m glad we have this site. Very informative, even with minor details.

Re: Replaced fuel regulator

Simply crimping the supply and return hoses would have stopped it even if it was siphoning. Vice grips and a couple of nickles will work in a pinch. Removing the fuel cap is also obviously useful to reduce pressure in the tank.

Re: Replaced fuel regulator

Yeah that’s my fault. Should have read up some more about replacing it. Will a bad regulator cause fuel to go into the crankcase? Or just into the intake?
