Vortech heads/manifold
What are vortech heads? I know they perform well, but what's the story? Are they strictly aftermarket?, or are they oe on any cars? I know SD now has that manifold right? How much for that set-up...probably gotta change the cam too right? ...or at least you'd want to.

Vortec heads are factory heads that come on some trucks. From what I understand they have a very efficient combustion chamber and are cheap (since they are plentiful) compared to other aftermarket heads. They also have higher intake runners and the vortec intake manifold bolt pattern. The Intake bolt patten has 8 bolts going straight down as compared to the regular angled 12 bolts. The other down side is that in stock form they aren't good for much over .45" valve lift.
Hope it helps,

They came in gm truck with 350 in them from 96 to 99 I belive. They are a good cheap performance up grade if you get the high performec verion from SDPC 525 lift and screw in rocker studs and the base you will still have less then 1000 in to them I payed more then that for my heads alone. you could also get a take off zz4 cam from them for 100 buck and you would have a nice performince combo with out spending a lot off cash.
