What makes the Vortech heads so good?

What makes the Vortech heads so good? I mean, why are so many people excited about a TPI base that will fit the Vortech heads?

sorry synergy but they are a head.

There a gm produced performence head that due to the small chamber size 64cc and the old vortech design that they are able to out produce the edelbrock Rpm heads along with the sportsman two heads yet only cost around $450 for a set complete minus rocker arms, push rods, and valve cover

85 Z28 with 71' 350, 650 double pumper, air gap man, 280h cam, 10.5:1 comp, and vortec heads, 450Hp oh yeah

They have an awesome intake and the combustion chambers have a kidney shape which creats more power. WIth mild porting they make more hp and torque above 3000rpm than the famous vette heads. I have the article around here somewhere but even the stock vortec heads flowed better than the vette heads in the upper rpm range. Basically they make more power for less and that is a good thing .

what many people are forgetting is that they have a slight raised intake runner which helps create more velocity and better flow.

also, the down side is that you are not supposed to port the vortec heads because you can screw up the design of the chamber and lose exhaust velocity. sometimes flow doesn't always mean power

I think what Synergy was referring to was the fact that GM makes a Vortec head, and Vortech is a company that specializes in superchargers. Though I would also have to assume he knew what the original poster was referring to.

I know exactly what he was talking about... I was just being sarcastic

And for my two cents on this... Vortec heads are probably the best bang for the buck set of iron heads you can buy. As far as making it work with a TPI intake, you'll have to wait quite a long time until SDPC gets off their asses and decide to release the Vortec TPI baseplate. I decided to spend a little more on TrickFlow heads and an Accell intake. I'm happy with them

Car: Damn
Engine: This
Transmission: New Stuff
That Vortec TPI base doesn't impress me much.
The ports look smaller than a stock tpi base!
Nothing that can't be fixed with some porting, but you'd think that all this time to design this manifold they could have made it competitive with other aftermarket ones.
My opinion comes from the picture on the Scoogin Dickey site.

------------------
'88 RS (originally 2.8)
-350, .040 over, vette alum. L98s, stock tpi.
-305 injectors & chip
-TES headers & edelbrock cat back
-3.73 gears, 700r4.
Best with 2.8-17.4@77mph
Best with 305-15.0@93mph
Best with 356-13.7@101mph
on a 2.050 60 ft.
(Damn the 2.8!)

These heads have the best efficiency of any cylinder head out their right now. They have great swirl which means they make great power, low emissions and great gas mileage. The downside is the small intake runner size limits you on CID and it limits ultimate horsepower. Also the exhaust side needs to be ported to help balance intake and exhaust flow. These are great heads for the price.
