GTA leather seat covers?

Since Lethal Interiors aka “Princess” is not making OEM style leather seat covers anymore, where are people going to buy their new leather seat covers? I don’t want Hampton vinyl. Are we out of luck now?

Re: GTA leather seat covers?

Cool you have a 89 GTA. My friend has the exact same GTA but his CC1 option got it shipped to ASC to get the top cut off. We are close to getting ready to recover the Ultima leather seats in his convertible.

There is a wonderful guy on Ebay that goes by rubik818 that makes excellent interiors for our cars and other cars too. My friend with the GTA has spoke with him on the phone and he seems to be a super standup guy. We haven't ordered a set of his 3rd gen covers yet but my friend has got his interior and trophy mat in white and blue for a 1994 25th Anniversary Trans Am and it was absolutely amazing. Our local interior guy installed it and said everything went well and it fit perfect like an fine Isotoner glove.

This dude has a crew of guys that come up from Mexico 6 months out of the year and make all his orders. December to May. After they go back he just has whatever stock they made him for the rest of the year to sell until they come back next year for 6 months and make all his new orders. Them Mexicans guys make some damn fine interiors.

Thanks, I saw those. Unfortunately, they don’t seem to have the ‘87-‘92 style front seat covers in black, only ‘96-‘02.

Seeing you post again reminds me I was aiming to reply back to this thread.

Dude I mentioned make his seat covers in real leather and Hampton vinyl. It's normally $999.99 for a full 3rd gen set in Hampton vinyl and $1399.99 in real leather. That's the prices I remember for his 1989 TTA set cover sets.

Re: GTA leather seat covers?

Thats a damn good price for real leather seat covers. Even if they're just the front and only 96-02.

Skilled labor Mexicans ain't cheap. Sometimes cost more than skilled labor Americans. Difference between the two is the Mexicans will actually work.

Thanks for getting back.

It seems he’s out of black for the ‘87-92 GTA seat covers made in real leather. Hampton vinyl is the only material listed in black for those model years. Also, I see that he uses a flat piece of leather/vinyl for the lumbar side bolsters (accordion bellows part). With Princess, she had you send in the old accordion bellow lumbar piece from your old seats so she could stitch them back on to the new covers. I guess it wouldn’t be that hard to unstitch the flat leather piece he provides and then reattach the stock plastic rubber accordion lumbar side piece. However, I think you would need to have an upholsterer do that since it would take a heavy duty sewing machine to pierce though the rubber/plastic. I don’t think you could hand sew those parts on.

I’ll will contact that guy on EBay to see what he says about making more ‘87-‘92 GTA seat covers (in black) made in real leather. I’m thinking he will probably say that he only has the Hampton vinyl (in black) and once supplies are gone, they’re gone. However, I don’t want to be presumptive. It’s just unfortunate that Princess, who came very highly recommended on these forums, is not making them anymore. I was on her long lead list, but when my time finally came up she said she was too busy with other projects and was not making them anymore. Maybe I could contact her and convince her to make me a set, I don’t know. I will definitely see what the EBAY guy says before I do that, though.

Re: GTA leather seat covers?

Yeah that piece has to be sewn on. Our local upholstery guy hates doing these GTA seats partly because of that. Just a couple days ago he finished the black 1989 GTA ASC convertible seats and the front set of 1991 GTA Beechwood seats that are being converted into office chairs.

This is one of the Beechwood GTA seats. Don't judge the the looseness of the covers because these seats were roached. We going to remove the covers and build up the foam and maybe install heat and cooling and massager. This was an inexpensive doing a favor job. They not going in a show car. Just office chairs. Bases still have to be picked out and adapter brackets with armrests have to be made. These are Hampton vinyl.

Was about to ask the same thing. Got swatches on the way too. Hoping the charcoal black is more black than 96 factory black.

Those look really nice. I was real close to pulling the trigger on the Hampton vinyl set, but then the leather smell my original covers still have made me change my mind. That leather smell is very addictive.

The only seat on mine that’s really bad is the driver’s seat. I guess I could just get that one recovered locally with real leather and leave the other ones alone. However, the other seats won’t be as new and perfect as the recovered one. I really don’t want to half azz it anymore. If I do the interior, I’d like to get all the seats done even though it’s the really only the driver’s seat that’s in bad shape.

I contacted the guy on eBay that sells the GTA seat covers so hopefully he’ll get back to me. The ‘96-‘02 style seat covers he sells in black leather are a little different in the thigh support area on the front seats so I don’t know if they would actually work or not. I’ll report back on what he says about the ‘87-‘92 style in real black leather.
