ZZ4 Cam and TPI

Found a good price in a ZZ4 cam and some Vortec heads.
I already have my SD Vortec Intake.
Will this cam be usable for my 1987 350 TPI system?
What I have to also consider is I have a 1st TPI System but it will not be going on the engine this year. So I’d like I cam that I can run now and use that same cam when I install the 1st system.
What else could I use from this list of parts ?

Re: ZZ4 Cam and TPI

The zz4 cam works decent on a stock tune. But if you datalogging and see how fuel trims are it can be improved upon.

Re: ZZ4 Cam and TPI

Ya I’m not looking for major HP as in drag racing or a big lumpy cam.
I just want something that you will know the engine isn’t stock and sounds crisp.
another 80ish HP would be what I am after with the heads and Cam.

Re: ZZ4 Cam and TPI

I ran the zz4 on my bolt on, stock heads (with valve springs) TPI and I loved it. Just enough lope to know it's not stock, but not rowdy at all. Throttle response and crispness were the big notables for me. Not a huge power bump. I think I felt an increase but you know how that stuff goes. Added a 2200 stall and a 3.27 gear and the car ran far better than you'd think it would. I think it's almost perfectly suited to the Vortec heads and TPI system, assuming you mod the heads for the lift. ....that all being said, I think I'd want more cam with the FIRST system.

Re: ZZ4 Cam and TPI

Thanks For that info that’s what I was looking for. It’s looking like I won’t have the 1st system on this year.
I may have to send it back to them to build an intake. I talked to Ken Friday
